Many e-bikes, such as fat bikes, are tuned and can therefore go too fast. This is prohibited and can lead to dangerous situations, fines, and uninsured damage. Therefore, check your child’s bike and discuss it with them.

An e-bike may not exceed 25 kilometers per hour. The motor may have a maximum output of 250 watts. A throttle is only permitted up to 6 kilometers per hour.

Punishable

Riding a tuned e-bike is illegal. Your child can receive a fine, and if you do it repeatedly, the police will confiscate the bike. Your child will also not be insured, meaning you’ll have to pay for any damage or injury yourself. These costs can run into thousands of euros.

This is how an e-bike is tuned

E-bikes can be easily tuned. This is done, for example, with a special kit that connects to the motor’s cables. You can also use an app to set the bike to go faster.

This is what you can do

You can find all the rules and information on our website . Police officer Johan Dubbeldam also explains in a video(link is external)Learn how to recognize a tuned e-bike.
